As I sit here on the eve of celebrating another year of life.
I can truly say that I am blessed.
Even in the midst of obstacles and very trying times, I am still blessed.
We always ponder on the topic of trials and tribulations on our journey.
The enemies and "haters" that we acquire along the way.
Why are there so many forces against me that do not want me to succeed?
From our inception just like God knew us, so did evil.
Evil is well aware of the great things we could do if we operate according to God's will.
So on our journey these distraction or deterrents come in many physical forms.
I want hell to be afraid of me
Everything that is evil and not of God, should be afraid

Re-Freshing

Starting over is the hardest thing in the world for a man or woman with pride to do
Changing what they are used to and exchanging old habits for new
Life has times where the only thing left to do is to start over
It has been a constant struggle for me to deal with this situation
After many tireless days and sleepless nights, I realize that it is time for a refreshing
For someone who was once on top of the world and thought he had life by the horns
To say the least this is a task in itself

Earth Love

I am one in the Earth
Hugging trees as the wind blows its' leaves
As it too blows, I sway to and fro across its' base
Enjoying the natural motion of its limbs
The center of my core warming to the effect of the center of you
Transforming as the seasons turn your leaves
I too can adapt with a change in climate
Displaying the beautiful picture of what nature causes
The serenity of your waves crashing at the shore
Erasing the memories of yesterdays traffic
I am in love with you naturally

Leaving all participants in its game in disbelief and distraught from the actions it takes
The turns and movement through its course causing motion sickness
I am not against opposition or detours
Nor am I against the ambiguity of what my life has to offer
It always leads me back to where I started and where I will end

Behind the Smile

Looking into the frame of the picture
I see a child with the biggest smile and look of happiness
I ask myself
What is this young child thinking at that moment in time?
The smile says that life is enjoyable and this photo-op is a happy time for them
We fail to realize the emotion not captured
So in fact this picture hides a large percentage of the truth
Smiles are often mistaken for that of happiness
But it only acts as make-up, covering the scars and dysfunctions that scorn the life of this child

What happens when THEY become US?

One day while riding a New York City subway, I encountered a man asking for change from the people he deemed to be more fortunate than himself. As time passed and no one really paid attention, the man grew angry and began to speak out in disgust. He told a story of how he hadn't not too long ago been In their shoes and frowned upon those who asked for handouts. I could see the pain in his eyes as he continued to explain that he was fired from his job and after months of searching, was running out of options to feed his family. My question is what happens when the terms they and them turn into we and us? In times like these, this man's story takes on a whole new meaning.

When you find your passion that is when life begins
I could imagine this is a moment of nostalgia for some of the worlds greatest minds
A time of revelation and excitement
I believe it is at a moment in time where nothing else seems to be working and all you have left is passion
I have always wondered if my moment slipped away
This moment is precious and a small percentage of humans catch it at its inception
Time is something we will never be able to rewind
But only certain opportunities come to us once in a lifetime
