Somewhere

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Excerpt from Book

Somewhere there is a millionaire with no visible worries
Somewhere there is a child with no food or water
Somewhere there is someone taking life for granted
Somewhere there is someone who has been told by doctors their days are numbered
Somewhere there is a mansion with many empty rooms
Somewhere there is a homeless person searching for a room that is empty
Somewhere there is........

Think about how you treat your "Somewhere"
To be continued in the soon to be realeased book

Destination Love

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

No compass, map, nor GPS needed
Losing all sense of direction
Unable to find my way back to some of the familiar places
As a man I find myself seldomly stopping to ask for directions
Only trying to figure it out for myself
Truth is I never thought I would get lost
I had been to this place once or twice before
But then again the directions to this destination were a little different

Thanks Again

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I know, I know you probably heard this so many times
It probably could get overwhelming at times
Because we are so appreciative of what you have done
You probably hear it and say "Please you say this enough"
"I've heard it already, I know your heart is gratified"
Ok that probably isn't the whole truth
We probably don't say it often as we should
I too am at fault
It probably is just spoken in multitudes on days of celebration
But beyond this day of festive celebration, I would like to tell you
Thanks Again

Confident Not Conceited

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Arrogance is no form of flattery
It kills the atmosphere and ambiance of any forum
Draining the positive energy from all that surround it
It creates enemies and builds anomosity towards its host
It has the frangrance of milk several months past its time
Standing out as a crowd of one, the conceited believe they have many friends
But in fact they are alone, for we only accept you because we are hoping it diminishes your face time
Like someone and they will give you your space when needed
Hate someone and it seems as if they are always around

I Struggle

By Theodore Goyins, III (TRG3)

I struggle with dreams because they have to be fulfilled
I struggle with sleep because thoughts of changing the world keep me awake
I struggle with thoughts of my future children because for them I will have to provide and protect
I struggle with pain because I have to hide it
I struggle with love because I never want it to be lost
I struggle with time because I can't rewind it
I struggle because I hate to see those around me struggle
I struggle with your love because I have to accept it

When I Became Me......Again

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Inspired By Kevan Washington

It is funny because I never lost me but that day it really felt like I did
Prior to "The Day" life had been grand, everything was going the way I like to think God had planned
I mean life could not be any better
Waking up every morning being able to look into the eyes of the future and seeing a clear path to destiny
I was able to hold God's greatest gift in my arms, my son
He would look at me with a promising glare and know that he was protected
I could hear his angelic voice call out "Daddy" even if he was not around
It would resound in my memory as if he sat next to me at that very moment
Life was at its greatest moment when the simple things made me smile

Here, Now, and Forever

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

A dream man encompasses all the great memories you have in life
He is a mixture of what is now, what was, and what will be forever
I can be the things that use to make you laugh
I can be all the times from the past where a smile graced your beautiful face
I can be that man
Your present day renaissance man, that is me
The one to be protective of your now, no matter the hurt from the past
I can be anything you want me to be, as long as I am with you

In A Crowded Room

By Theodore R. Goyins III

The tone is set, the night has fallen
Suits and dresses draped those that mingled amongst each other
Everyone is enjoying the mood of the evening
Music playing, laughter and chatter fill the atmosphere
People of all walks crowd the room
I enter and walk through looking like a dear in headlights
Looking for someone to latch onto, to look like I belong
Sparking a conversation that wouldn't interest anyone within ten feet
But I go on because I want to seem busy and not look out of place
After minutes and hours of worthless conversation, I feel the heat
You know that warmth you feel when you spot someone or they spot you
I feel someone in my area, it is not a funny feeling
It is actually an amazing feeling
I turn left and nobody was there
The same is true when I turn to the right
But as I about face there she was

One Day......Love

By Theodore R. Goyins III

Only hours, days, and years have passed
Determined that time will not be the only thing that defines when it will come
For only it builds my stamina to handle when it does
Preparation is what will bring true love
Preparing for your mate will determine its longevity
It will not be healthy for it to come and you not be ready for its fullness
Damaging the hearts of the precious
This will be your unconscious reaction to your ill-prepared approach to love
Suffering in pain and brokenness
These are the true test that will prepare you for what is to come

The Reader

By Theodore R. Goyins III

I captured every moment on the pages
Each word pulled me in
Captivating and grabbing my attention hours at a time
This author speaks to my situation perfectly
Expressing the thoughts of my heart
I read and it seems as if the writer is constructing my biography
Reading to learn more, yearning and crying out for a life changing moment
Something that will snap me out of this world of misery and confusion
I read

Divert Your Energy

By Theodore R. Goyins III

Energy defined is the capacity of a physical system to perform work
There is no greater physical system than that of the human body
Carefully crafted and constructed at every angle
Each individual part serving a particular purpose
Our physical system was divinely created to perform
Performance levels may differ from person to person but the capacity is there
Levels differentiate because we are given a choice where to divert our energy

Evolved

By Theodore R. Goyins III

Today is the evolution of a dream once imagined
As an adolescent we all placed ourselves in the land of fantasy
But this is no longer a fantasy
This is real
I am actually here in the moment
Enjoying the fruits of my labor and learning from the spoils of my past
For this journey has been quite long
As a child I imagined it but in between I worked it
Not knowing that those words I spoke years ago would come to fruition
I had faith

Inspired By

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

It is every tick in the clock as the day fades
Time is one that inspires me
The look in your eyes when you see me from a far
It is the warmth I feel when I am in your arms
Happiness of children as they play freely in a world of turmoil
Smiles on the faces of those in a state of poverty, in spite of
The freshness of the day after a stale night of violence
For the lady that left without a word

Dancing Among the Weeds

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Resting in the beautiful countryside
Nestled in the trees of the forest
Gazing into the pedals of the flowers in the garden
Amongst the natural too grows the inevitable
If you do not tend to this bed of radiant beauty daily
Weeds grow; such is life
Some people rid of these weeds at first glance
But you are different
In your garden flowers remain and so for the weeds

Hell is Afraid of Me

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

As I sit here on the eve of celebrating another year of life.
I can truly say that I am blessed.
Even in the midst of obstacles and very trying times, I am still blessed.
We always ponder on the topic of trials and tribulations on our journey.
The enemies and "haters" that we acquire along the way.
Why are there so many forces against me that do not want me to succeed?
From our inception just like God knew us, so did evil.
Evil is well aware of the great things we could do if we operate according to God's will.
So on our journey these distraction or deterrents come in many physical forms.
I want hell to be afraid of me
Everything that is evil and not of God, should be afraid

Re-Freshing

By Theodore R. Goyins III

Starting over is the hardest thing in the world for a man or woman with pride to do
Changing what they are used to and exchanging old habits for new
Life has times where the only thing left to do is to start over
It has been a constant struggle for me to deal with this situation
After many tireless days and sleepless nights, I realize that it is time for a refreshing
For someone who was once on top of the world and thought he had life by the horns
To say the least this is a task in itself

Earth Love

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I am one in the Earth
Hugging trees as the wind blows its' leaves
As it too blows, I sway to and fro across its' base
Enjoying the natural motion of its limbs
The center of my core warming to the effect of the center of you
Transforming as the seasons turn your leaves
I too can adapt with a change in climate
Displaying the beautiful picture of what nature causes
The serenity of your waves crashing at the shore
Erasing the memories of yesterdays traffic
I am in love with you naturally

Confused

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Life is confusing in itself
Leaving all participants in its game in disbelief and distraught from the actions it takes
The turns and movement through its course causing motion sickness
I am not against opposition or detours
Nor am I against the ambiguity of what my life has to offer
It always leads me back to where I started and where I will end
At the feet of God

Behind the Smile

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Looking into the frame of the picture
I see a child with the biggest smile and look of happiness
I ask myself
What is this young child thinking at that moment in time?
The smile says that life is enjoyable and this photo-op is a happy time for them
We fail to realize the emotion not captured
So in fact this picture hides a large percentage of the truth
Smiles are often mistaken for that of happiness
But it only acts as make-up, covering the scars and dysfunctions that scorn the life of this child

What happens when THEY become US?

By Alex "Lex" Goyins

One day while riding a New York City subway, I encountered a man asking for change from the people he deemed to be more fortunate than himself. As time passed and no one really paid attention, the man grew angry and began to speak out in disgust. He told a story of how he hadn't not too long ago been In their shoes and frowned upon those who asked for handouts. I could see the pain in his eyes as he continued to explain that he was fired from his job and after months of searching, was running out of options to feed his family. My question is what happens when the terms they and them turn into we and us? In times like these, this man's story takes on a whole new meaning.

Moment of a Millionaire

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

When you find your passion that is when life begins
I could imagine this is a moment of nostalgia for some of the worlds greatest minds
A time of revelation and excitement
I believe it is at a moment in time where nothing else seems to be working and all you have left is passion
I have always wondered if my moment slipped away
This moment is precious and a small percentage of humans catch it at its inception
Time is something we will never be able to rewind
But only certain opportunities come to us once in a lifetime

Potential Meets Pinnacle

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

At what point does your potential turn into production?
Those on track to make life successful and accomplish great feats have always heard the classic line.
The line always reads as such, "You are someone with great potential".
That says to me that you could be but you're not.
What does that mean?
Why do I constantly have to be told I have great potential?
Great potential to be a noted businessman, potential to be a great husband, and potential to be just great.
A part of me wants to say save it but another part ask the question, why?
Why am I seen as someone with potential and not an executor of that potential. Furthermore, what have I not done to ensure that my potential has been fully exercised.
Well if you can tell by my words, I AM FED UP!

If I Never Told You

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Special dedication to my sister on her 30th birthday 7/9/09. Love You Tiarra

Through all the strife and tragedy one thing remains.
In a silent place there is one thing that resounds in the air we breathe.
When everything around me is dark, there is one thing that shines through.
In the midst of a storm a calming breeze this very thing is.
It is every beat and lyric in a song that soothes the pain.
If I never told you I love you
If I never told you I care
Please do not deny me of telling you over and over again.
It is one of the greatest gifts ever given to man
This is one thing that no object can penetrate
I give it all to you
If I never told you I need you
If I never told you you mean the world to me
I don't want to regret you not knowing

Confessions of a Writer

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

The pen has its' own guilty pleasures
It has a way of doing its' own thing when it graces the pad.
Thoughts that have stayed on the authors mind and have sought heavily to be released
These are ideas that transcend beyond the capacity of man's imagination.
Something epic will be revealed through the thoughts that kept the author up at night
No acknowledgement of grammar or punctuation but only makes reference to that which they know.

God and Me

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I know you are reading this and saying, "Why did he not capitalize the "m" in the word me of the title. It is simple, the God I serve and the life I live is bigger than me. I have come to terms that my life is not my own and it serves a greater purpose. I have and will continue to capitalize Him and see that He remains a constant in my everyday living. This past year has taught me a lot and reiterated the phrase "Depend on God and not man". I personally have caught myself in business situations where I have relied more heavily on man than who really has control. This past year I have had a few friends who have definitely kept me sane and optimistic of what the future holds. But when I am home, it is just God and me. Just little old me and a God who created the entire earth in 7 days. So how can man live up to this level of greatness?

Love Hangover

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Woke up in a panic, discovering that you weren't there
The smell of you lingers
Wondering what events took place the night before
It seems as if this day has come over and over again
Each day the symptoms becoming more evident
I've tried and tried to take remedies to rid of the evidence
The evidence of what was once here and has continued now for some time
As if you were to give me something that keeps me yearning for more
Your touch and tenderness carries me into the next day
I am dizzy from the thought of you and constantly trying to rid of this feeling
But I am addicted to everything about you, so I get high from just your scent

Live Backwards

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

If I could start at 100 years of age and work backwards I would
I could see my end from the beginning
I would see how my whole life would play out and there would be no question about who I was to become.
And they say that women age better than men do
So my love I could meet you in the middle and we shall enjoy our lives together.
I would hate for you to see me to grow old but only for you to see me grow younger.
To live backwards I would grow younger as my kids grew older making it easier for me to keep up as they ran about.

Change from Me

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Sometimes we look in the mirror and we see a stranger.
We do not recognize the person we have become and what actions caused us to become this way.
Life changing situations and time have transformed what once was.
A person of perfection and eager not to make any mistakes.
One who sought out to do things so differently.
We thought we would be on top of the world by now.
But everybody goes through tough seasons and times of acting out of character.
We are only able to determine we are acting out of character by being aware of who we really are.Who we really are is not the person you see now, the one making irrational decisions or acting how you would view me to act.
But in fact I may make some irrational decisions but out of it comes rational experiences for the next decision to be made.

Man Expressions

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

The image of man may be distorted a bit.
Distorted because we are considered to be emotionless human beings.
All emotions locked away in the closet of a home far off the road to where it is no longer in view.
But in fact this is not the case, the expression of emotion is different between men and women.
And sometimes it even differs from one man to another.
The fact is that men do have their way of expressing themselves.

Music I Am

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Life moves to the beat of a drum
Each persons drum beat has different repetition and sound
Ones high note may be anothers low pitch note.
We all have music that speaks to our soul
I am made of every symbol, note, and lyric
Every rhythmic melody is the very motion of the body
Each motion moving to a different tune
A tune and melody of life

Life Changing

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

They say create something that if nothing else changes your life. If nobody else is effected by what you create, at least you yourself will be changed. As if in my effort to eventually create a masterpiece, I do it for self gratification. Any artist original intent is to create, create those things that he or she imagines, create something that will be epic, but create for others to see. Motives for artistry could be argued and intentions rebutted. Each aritst' individualistic approach to their art form may differ from the onslaught, but at its end, what a sense of relief for the artist when at least one other person says, "I like". To an artist that means, I respect the time and imagination you put into this one piece and I want to ensure you that your work is not in vain. When you see my art I want you to experience an "I like" moment and furthermore I want you to have a life changing moment.

Until Then........

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

They say patience is a virtue and that in order to survive in this world, it is a must have. Yes I believe patience is a virtue but I also believe it is an art form. Furthermore, with any art form there must be practice to perfect it. You will never become perfect at the art form of patience because there will always be that one thing that wears it thin. But it is at the point where your work of art meets the brink of perfection, that you have reached your pinnacle of happiness. I imagine that all my dreams will come true because I lean on my faith and taking Him at His word. It is just the in between time phase that naturally worries me.

100 Days

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

2400 hours, 144,000 minutes, and 8,640,000 seconds.

This is the time it takes for our country to evaluate the current President and his administration, amid a recessionary period and two wars. The first 100 days in office as the President of the United States has always been the benchmark set for success or failure as far back in history as I can remember. Amongst all the political posturing and party rhetoric, we have still set this bar at a level hard to attain by any person, at a point in our country's history that we haven't seen in over 70 years. I am not sure if any of us have accomplished all the things we wanted to in the span of years that we have lived, let alone 100 days. But still we expect a human being to magically transform a NATION in 2400 hours. It is not my intent to gesture to the opinion that we shouldn't set benchmarks for our leaders. Contrastingly, I am all for setting goals and standards for our Commander in Chief. Nevertheless, it is important that we as citizens keep in mind when we all have set lofty goals for ourselves and it has taken longer than expected, surely we have all been there.

In Love with a Memory

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I will caress it tight to the place where the center of life beats.
It is a place where the blood flows to each part of my body to ensure that it is life and it is indeed real.
I hold these memories tight, squeezing every inch of them hoping that it will make it last longer.
Memories of childhood smiles and adolescent pains.
The smiles more than outweighed the pains of my younger years.
Years filled with love and happiness from those who were God sent to protect me.
I remember the days when I could look into to the eyes of any of my family members and see the stare of comfort.
The comfort of knowing that I was in the safest place in the world.

Because If You Don't......You Might Lose Her.

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Daily compliments delivered to the footstep of her smile
Conversations about things on her mind, and yes let it last a while
Expression of your undying and unconditional love for her mind, body, and soul.
The decision to focus on the relationship you both have with each other, and not concetrating on outside variables.
Make her feel as if chivalry never died, but in fact its pulse is more recognizable than ever because of your actions.
Be an ear for her and listen to all that she says
Enjoy the things that she enjoys and not only force her to to do the things that you enjoy.
Treat every day as if it were the first day you two met

Letter to My Future Children

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Dear Child,

Imagine This. Imagine you living in a world where the pursuit of happiness is actually within reach. Imagine you being whatever you want to be in life. My daughter imagine you can work in a world where your worth is seen as equal to your brother's. Son imagine that you can be a man living in a world where stereotypes will not be an anchor which feels as if it is trying to sink your ship of success. My namesake, our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt said once, "Believe you can, and you're halfway there". Children we live in a world where our imagination is not merely something we never see come to fruition. But it is that imagination which turns into dreams and then blossoms into reality. It is that same imagination that was the driving force for those who fought for civil rights. They imagined a world where all men and women are created equal and able to pursue their own idea of happiness. You live in a country where the ideals of the past may still live on but you are living in a time where the fortitude and bipartisan nature of the present people outweighs any weight of our history. Children you are more than able to do anything you set your mind to. You must live, and live without regrets. Do the things that are first honorable to God, then to you, family, and finally to this country. To live without regrets is to fulfill the dash between your first and last breath. Live with honesty, integrity, and character that are undeniable. Live believing that you can do anything you set your mind to and you are halfway to becoming that very thing.

Hope in the Harvest

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

When Nicaragua was hit hard by a hurricane it destroyed homes, crops, and took many lives. The hurricane proved devastating for the local economy and the livelihood of the residents. One Nicaraguan woman was quoted in the news saying, “We put ALL our hope in the harvest to take care of our children and families”. In essence the people of this country rely heavily on the crops produced to both feed their families and also earn a living. This natural disaster paints a bigger picture for us. The very birth of hope is in the harvest we cultivate and produce. Everyday each of us is given the opportunity to either plant a seed or water those seeds that our in the growth stage. The hurricane in Nicaragua among other natural disasters should give us all valuable life lessons.

The Day I Fell in Love with Scribe

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I can remember this day very distinctly.
I was yearning for something or someone to hear me, talk to me, and just allow me to release my thoughts on them.
It hurts when you feel like you have not a subject to unleash the very thought that goes through your mind at a specific time.
I wanted to get it out right then and there!
I needed you to be still while I talked to you, one that would sit there and let me dump all my hearts joys and pains onto them.
It was the smell of your refreshing scent that I longed for in my sleep.
I thought, "If I could just have these two things we could work everything else out together, while are members moved collectively to create music to the eyes.
It was peace that would allow me to stop thinking about these two characteristics I was missing in a confidant.

My Present is My Past

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

The history of each individual is created each day with each action. While speaking with my father and telling him about a very important dream and aspiration I had, he uttered something profound. I am not sure he was aware of the amount of impact this one brief statement would have on me. Since that day I have constantly reminded myself of this one phrase. It is one that guides each day's thoughts and each day's action. My father, Theodore R. Goyins Jr, looked at me after I finished telling him this big dream I wanted to go after and said, "Remember, you are creating your past now". In my young adult years I have learned to take the advice from my father with more of an attitude to accept it as philosophy for life. In essence he was saying that I am given twenty four hours to create the history of ME. It will be totally up to me to make daily decisions that will not negatively impact my aspirations for the future.

Am I Forgiven?

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Alright I admit it, even writing this I am struggling a bit.
A man struggles to explain when he is wrong, even if he thinks he is right.
I have wrestled with the thought of coming out an agreeing to the fact of not being right at all times.
This may be just a complex that I have, but I accept it.
This notion that you forgive those that have committed the most horrendous of sins has always puzzled me.
But I also realize that no sin is greater than the other, but some sins do have greater penalty.
My inconsistency and nonchalant attitude towards you have caused my plane to have a destiny delay.
As I sit on the runway of life, I ask myself "What would it take to allow the United Airlines of Ted to take off again".
The moment your life takes off is the moment you realize that your only weighed down by the baggage you carry.

Brother

This term is used universally and with great sincerity
Whether it is used in a genealogical sense or to portray a sense of family
I like to use it to denote the fact that I am honored to have many.
This term in my vocabulary is not used lightly but only used for those who I consider to be just that, a brother.
In fact the old adage “I am my brother’s keeper”, is indeed true but in my case it is the reverse
My brothers have kept me

You Are....

The essence of who you are is unexplainable because you just are.
No amount of recognition can explain what you mean to the evolution of life
With each growth stage you are the nurturer and encouragement to press forward
The portal of life resides within your womb and exudes through your spirit
Unfortunately you are never recognized as often as you should publicly
The secret to our success is founded upon the principle that you too are great
Great in the fact that you allow self gratification to be left on hold to ensure are needs are met.
The most selfless person known to mankind

State of the Union

In the present time the state of the union is unrecognizable.

To be United would take in consideration that we are one or together for one cause. In our current state we are the exact opposite, it should be entitled the State of the Divided

Divided by political parties, economical and social classifications, and still even to this day race. We are not unified to the point where we can even make an account to the effectiveness of the Unified states.

Our President, Barack Obama, is currently offering solutions to fix the debacle we are currently a part of, and some state governments are looking to turn these options away.

I am not sure if this is an ego thing because they disagree with the current administration's stimulus package but are they just inconsiderate to the fact that people are struggling.

This stimulus package was not passed to further or enhance any one person's political tyranny.
It was passed to help our country from the bottom up.

Until we make it up in our mind that there are more important people than ourselves we will continue to push selfish views.

Freedom

Decision made up in the mind but exercised through life’s actions

The very utterance of the word gives you a sense of relief in itself
Spoken into the atmosphere it loosens those things that have bound you and past generations for years
It is this audible tone that causes you to move to a space of openness and peace

Free from opinions, options, and opposition

The word is not entitled to the passive but only to the ones that are aggressive enough to take it by force.

Scattered Thoughts

“The mind is a terrible thing to waste”
This is a quote that reverberates constantly in my cerebrum

At times are mind goes to waste because we never properly assemble the scattered thoughts
These scattered thoughts could be compared to the thousands of pieces that create a puzzle.

At the sight of the scattered pieces you are overwhelmed to how this could create the picture on the box.
But in fact each puzzle piece has its proper place in this beautiful masterpiece.

The puzzle is how I relate our thoughts or just life in general
Each scattered thought has its proper place in the puzzle of our lives.
Formulated in our mind out comes the successes of life.

So I write......

Few and far between verbal communication can catch the full transcript of what I am trying to convey.
So I write...........

Thoughts racing through my head at the speed of a racecar amongst the circuit of grand prix professionals.
These thoughts are ones so intricate, to some they may seem strange
So I write.......

Because sometimes I can't tell you exactly how I feel
My guard is up and audible communication makes me nervous at times
So I write.......
