100 Days

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

2400 hours, 144,000 minutes, and 8,640,000 seconds.

This is the time it takes for our country to evaluate the current President and his administration, amid a recessionary period and two wars. The first 100 days in office as the President of the United States has always been the benchmark set for success or failure as far back in history as I can remember. Amongst all the political posturing and party rhetoric, we have still set this bar at a level hard to attain by any person, at a point in our country's history that we haven't seen in over 70 years. I am not sure if any of us have accomplished all the things we wanted to in the span of years that we have lived, let alone 100 days. But still we expect a human being to magically transform a NATION in 2400 hours. It is not my intent to gesture to the opinion that we shouldn't set benchmarks for our leaders. Contrastingly, I am all for setting goals and standards for our Commander in Chief. Nevertheless, it is important that we as citizens keep in mind when we all have set lofty goals for ourselves and it has taken longer than expected, surely we have all been there.

In Love with a Memory

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I will caress it tight to the place where the center of life beats.
It is a place where the blood flows to each part of my body to ensure that it is life and it is indeed real.
I hold these memories tight, squeezing every inch of them hoping that it will make it last longer.
Memories of childhood smiles and adolescent pains.
The smiles more than outweighed the pains of my younger years.
Years filled with love and happiness from those who were God sent to protect me.
I remember the days when I could look into to the eyes of any of my family members and see the stare of comfort.
The comfort of knowing that I was in the safest place in the world.

Because If You Don't......You Might Lose Her.

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Daily compliments delivered to the footstep of her smile
Conversations about things on her mind, and yes let it last a while
Expression of your undying and unconditional love for her mind, body, and soul.
The decision to focus on the relationship you both have with each other, and not concetrating on outside variables.
Make her feel as if chivalry never died, but in fact its pulse is more recognizable than ever because of your actions.
Be an ear for her and listen to all that she says
Enjoy the things that she enjoys and not only force her to to do the things that you enjoy.
Treat every day as if it were the first day you two met

Letter to My Future Children

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Dear Child,

Imagine This. Imagine you living in a world where the pursuit of happiness is actually within reach. Imagine you being whatever you want to be in life. My daughter imagine you can work in a world where your worth is seen as equal to your brother's. Son imagine that you can be a man living in a world where stereotypes will not be an anchor which feels as if it is trying to sink your ship of success. My namesake, our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt said once, "Believe you can, and you're halfway there". Children we live in a world where our imagination is not merely something we never see come to fruition. But it is that imagination which turns into dreams and then blossoms into reality. It is that same imagination that was the driving force for those who fought for civil rights. They imagined a world where all men and women are created equal and able to pursue their own idea of happiness. You live in a country where the ideals of the past may still live on but you are living in a time where the fortitude and bipartisan nature of the present people outweighs any weight of our history. Children you are more than able to do anything you set your mind to. You must live, and live without regrets. Do the things that are first honorable to God, then to you, family, and finally to this country. To live without regrets is to fulfill the dash between your first and last breath. Live with honesty, integrity, and character that are undeniable. Live believing that you can do anything you set your mind to and you are halfway to becoming that very thing.

Hope in the Harvest

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

When Nicaragua was hit hard by a hurricane it destroyed homes, crops, and took many lives. The hurricane proved devastating for the local economy and the livelihood of the residents. One Nicaraguan woman was quoted in the news saying, “We put ALL our hope in the harvest to take care of our children and families”. In essence the people of this country rely heavily on the crops produced to both feed their families and also earn a living. This natural disaster paints a bigger picture for us. The very birth of hope is in the harvest we cultivate and produce. Everyday each of us is given the opportunity to either plant a seed or water those seeds that our in the growth stage. The hurricane in Nicaragua among other natural disasters should give us all valuable life lessons.

The Day I Fell in Love with Scribe

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

I can remember this day very distinctly.
I was yearning for something or someone to hear me, talk to me, and just allow me to release my thoughts on them.
It hurts when you feel like you have not a subject to unleash the very thought that goes through your mind at a specific time.
I wanted to get it out right then and there!
I needed you to be still while I talked to you, one that would sit there and let me dump all my hearts joys and pains onto them.
It was the smell of your refreshing scent that I longed for in my sleep.
I thought, "If I could just have these two things we could work everything else out together, while are members moved collectively to create music to the eyes.
It was peace that would allow me to stop thinking about these two characteristics I was missing in a confidant.

My Present is My Past

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

The history of each individual is created each day with each action. While speaking with my father and telling him about a very important dream and aspiration I had, he uttered something profound. I am not sure he was aware of the amount of impact this one brief statement would have on me. Since that day I have constantly reminded myself of this one phrase. It is one that guides each day's thoughts and each day's action. My father, Theodore R. Goyins Jr, looked at me after I finished telling him this big dream I wanted to go after and said, "Remember, you are creating your past now". In my young adult years I have learned to take the advice from my father with more of an attitude to accept it as philosophy for life. In essence he was saying that I am given twenty four hours to create the history of ME. It will be totally up to me to make daily decisions that will not negatively impact my aspirations for the future.

Am I Forgiven?

By Theodore R. Goyins, III

Alright I admit it, even writing this I am struggling a bit.
A man struggles to explain when he is wrong, even if he thinks he is right.
I have wrestled with the thought of coming out an agreeing to the fact of not being right at all times.
This may be just a complex that I have, but I accept it.
This notion that you forgive those that have committed the most horrendous of sins has always puzzled me.
But I also realize that no sin is greater than the other, but some sins do have greater penalty.
My inconsistency and nonchalant attitude towards you have caused my plane to have a destiny delay.
As I sit on the runway of life, I ask myself "What would it take to allow the United Airlines of Ted to take off again".
The moment your life takes off is the moment you realize that your only weighed down by the baggage you carry.

Brother

This term is used universally and with great sincerity
Whether it is used in a genealogical sense or to portray a sense of family
I like to use it to denote the fact that I am honored to have many.
This term in my vocabulary is not used lightly but only used for those who I consider to be just that, a brother.
In fact the old adage “I am my brother’s keeper”, is indeed true but in my case it is the reverse
My brothers have kept me

You Are....

The essence of who you are is unexplainable because you just are.
No amount of recognition can explain what you mean to the evolution of life
With each growth stage you are the nurturer and encouragement to press forward
The portal of life resides within your womb and exudes through your spirit
Unfortunately you are never recognized as often as you should publicly
The secret to our success is founded upon the principle that you too are great
Great in the fact that you allow self gratification to be left on hold to ensure are needs are met.
The most selfless person known to mankind

State of the Union

In the present time the state of the union is unrecognizable.

To be United would take in consideration that we are one or together for one cause. In our current state we are the exact opposite, it should be entitled the State of the Divided

Divided by political parties, economical and social classifications, and still even to this day race. We are not unified to the point where we can even make an account to the effectiveness of the Unified states.

Our President, Barack Obama, is currently offering solutions to fix the debacle we are currently a part of, and some state governments are looking to turn these options away.

I am not sure if this is an ego thing because they disagree with the current administration's stimulus package but are they just inconsiderate to the fact that people are struggling.

This stimulus package was not passed to further or enhance any one person's political tyranny.
It was passed to help our country from the bottom up.

Until we make it up in our mind that there are more important people than ourselves we will continue to push selfish views.

Freedom

Decision made up in the mind but exercised through life’s actions

The very utterance of the word gives you a sense of relief in itself
Spoken into the atmosphere it loosens those things that have bound you and past generations for years
It is this audible tone that causes you to move to a space of openness and peace

Free from opinions, options, and opposition

The word is not entitled to the passive but only to the ones that are aggressive enough to take it by force.

Scattered Thoughts

“The mind is a terrible thing to waste”
This is a quote that reverberates constantly in my cerebrum

At times are mind goes to waste because we never properly assemble the scattered thoughts
These scattered thoughts could be compared to the thousands of pieces that create a puzzle.

At the sight of the scattered pieces you are overwhelmed to how this could create the picture on the box.
But in fact each puzzle piece has its proper place in this beautiful masterpiece.

The puzzle is how I relate our thoughts or just life in general
Each scattered thought has its proper place in the puzzle of our lives.
Formulated in our mind out comes the successes of life.

So I write......

Few and far between verbal communication can catch the full transcript of what I am trying to convey.
So I write...........

Thoughts racing through my head at the speed of a racecar amongst the circuit of grand prix professionals.
These thoughts are ones so intricate, to some they may seem strange
So I write.......

Because sometimes I can't tell you exactly how I feel
My guard is up and audible communication makes me nervous at times
So I write.......
