By Theodore R. Goyins, III
Dear Child,
Imagine This. Imagine you living in a world where the pursuit of happiness is actually within reach. Imagine you being whatever you want to be in life. My daughter imagine you can work in a world where your worth is seen as equal to your brother's. Son imagine that you can be a man living in a world where stereotypes will not be an anchor which feels as if it is trying to sink your ship of success. My namesake, our 26th President, Theodore Roosevelt said once, "Believe you can, and you're halfway there". Children we live in a world where our imagination is not merely something we never see come to fruition. But it is that imagination which turns into dreams and then blossoms into reality. It is that same imagination that was the driving force for those who fought for civil rights. They imagined a world where all men and women are created equal and able to pursue their own idea of happiness. You live in a country where the ideals of the past may still live on but you are living in a time where the fortitude and bipartisan nature of the present people outweighs any weight of our history. Children you are more than able to do anything you set your mind to. You must live, and live without regrets. Do the things that are first honorable to God, then to you, family, and finally to this country. To live without regrets is to fulfill the dash between your first and last breath. Live with honesty, integrity, and character that are undeniable. Live believing that you can do anything you set your mind to and you are halfway to becoming that very thing.
